Updated: May 16, 2022

Delicious homemade applesauce just got easier, made in the instant pot!

This Instant Pot applesauce recipe has no added sugar (although we did want to add some, we got some pretty tart apples this time)! Quick and easy to make in a small batch or into a large batch to can for the pantry!

3 lb bags of apples

This weekend at our local animal auction, a local farm was selling some produce at one of the booths! I just had grabbed these apples - 2 x three-pound bags for $5 seemed like a steal for us! So this weekend, apart from planting our broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage seeds, we also made half a year's worth of apple sauce for the two of us, with some to spare as gifts! Out of the 6 lbs. of apples that we used, we ended up getting 3 half-pint jars, as well as 18 quarter pints! Stay tuned for some baking recipes that utilize apple sauce!

Instant Pot Apple Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs. apples , peeled, cored and roughly chopped

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice

  • All-spice (optional)

  • Sugar (optional)

Directions

1. Peel and core apples

2. Add water, lemon juice, and spices to instant pot and stir to combine. Add apples and toss to mix.

3. Secure lid and cook on manual (high pressure) for 8 minutes. Do a controlled quick release or allow the pressure to naturally release.

4. Mash the apple mixture a few times with a potato masher, if desired. (If you like a smoother texture you could pulse it in the blender.)

For small batch

  • Transfer contents to a bowl and allow to cool completely. Stir in more cinnamon, if desired, to taste.

  • Enjoy warm or cold. Store in the fridge for up to 7-10 days.

Do you HAVE to can this applesauce?

Nope, not at all! If you are making a small batch, or maybe you have a lot of people to feed, you can keep this in the fridge for about 7-10 days.
